Alchemy of Growth

I want to be in a Horizon 3 situation.

Moccasins of the Divas

We decided to exchange autobiographies as a way of getting to know each other a little better. After reading them all, I feel very small. How did I get to this place? Was it purely bad luck? Or did I take a wrong turn? I thought I was doing the best I could. But maybe I could have done better? If so, how? What do I want, anyway?

Dragontaire

Max is enamored of dragons these days. He even created a deck of Dragon Cards and games to play with them. One game is Dragon War. Another is Dragontaire. My favorite is Munchies!

Grande Vanilla Latte

I plunked down $3.50 for a Grande Vanilla Latte at Starbucks this morning. Surprised the heck out of Angie! It was warm and light and just the right start to a payday Friday.

Significance

What is it about blog posts that make them look significant?
Maybe the font for the heading.
Writing a blog post makes me feel like a dork.

Miggy Says "Dig Deeper"

Look back over the roles you've played for the last 10 years. For each role, list the satisfactions. For each role, list the dissatisfactions. Look for patterns and themes in the data.

Is There a New OD?

In this article, Bob Marshak posits two flavors of OD: Classical and New.

www.odnetwork.org/publications/seasonings/article_marshak.html

Bob articulates something I have been 'sensing' in my program, but wasn't actually fully conscious of. There is a 'tug' I'm feeling from (at least) two legacies in the program.

Although Bob lumps Action Research in with 'Classical OD,' I have the sense from my readings that AR is moving in this social constructivist direction, also, where reality is not a fact, but instead socially constructed.

In the introductory chapter of The Handbook of Action Research, Hilary Bradbury and Peter Reason describe an 'emerging participatory worldview' that places AR in this social constructivist context.

Surfacing the Issue

I "stepped up" and surfaced the issue today. Perhaps I was successful in catalyzing change? It felt like more of the same in the morning, but by early evening decisions were rumored.

It was awful, but Rosa reframed it as a win. I think she's right.

Hard, risky, affective work!

Genius Hates Company

It's hard living with a genius, but it has its perks.

Holding

Ian recited poetry in the Kindergarten show today. But the whole program was too much for him, and he didn't quite hold it together to the end. The other kids were worried, but ultimately they decided to proceed without him.

Sometimes, even with:
  • the study of Diana Fosha
  • the self-reflection
  • the identification of best self
  • the development of ideal self and personal vision
  • the 360 degree emotional competency feedback
  • the session with the Master Coach

I feel like Ian. I don't know who I am, what I'm doing reciting poetry, or how to hold it all together. And the other kids proceed without me.

Spring Green and Winter White

April 24, and the snow is falling on the spent magnolias and flowering pears. The ash looks pretty in its frilly spring green and winter white.
